I Can See Clearly Now...

I think this means that somebody likes his high chair:

The tray is cool too:
We finally broke out the high chair for B. He normally eats in his superseat, but he's getting to be so big and we thought it was time!
I've got a question...it seems like everyone is asking me if he's crawling and when I say no, I start to wonder by their tone if he should be crawling. Everytime I put him on his tummy he flips back over in 2 seconds flat, so I'm wondering if he plans on skipping crawling and going straight for walking (standing is his fav thing). Any ideas?

no i wouldn't worry about him not crawling yet. My son started army crawling this last weekend, the 4th when he turned 8 months. He will do it when he's good and ready. For now just enjoy the fact that he's not getting into stuff, eating shoes, and dog bones! I think he looks perfect! (and he looks adorable in that high chair)

I wouldn't worry about him crawling, they are all so individual. I think he will crawl/walk/talk all when he is darn ready and you wont be ready no matter how soon it happens.

I think he looks adorable in the high chair. The picture where you put his tray on he looks adorable. He looks tiny in that picture!

Look how excited he is! Too cute :)

As for crawling, my little guy was a late bloomer. But according to "Bright Starts" by Dr. Richard C. Woolfson

*sixth month: Shows first signs of crawling by drawing one knee up to his tummy. Becoming more adept at rolling from front to back and back to front.

Sounds like he is right on track to me!

My sweet girl (who is now 13 ... boo!) started crawling at 4 months ... which was really the pits because then she was into everything. She was such a great crawler she didn't walk until she was almost 14 months. Every kiddo is different and don't worry about what other people think ... I don't think they ask when he started crawling on his college applications =)

I would not have any idea about the crawling thing...I would think, at least he's not getting into stuff yet! Ha ha
...but the pics are super cute!

No, don't worry. All three of mine crawled after seven months old. They 'commando crawled' prior to actual crawling. He is so cute!

Jenna, my son was over 9 months old before he crawling and then he started walking at 11 months. My daughter was about 6 months old when she started crawling and 11 months when she started walking. Like others have said... be glad he's not crawling yet and in to EVERYTHING! :)

I've read all kinds of stuff...some babies never crawl, some babies army crawl or scoot, some babies just roll....as long as he figures out a way to get where he wants, he is just fine!!! My Lilly army crawled (dragged herself across the floor with arms) for a couple of months and then one day she just started "normal" crawling. She didn't army crawl until maybe 7 months??. She was content just rolling to whatever she wanted to get to. And, like mentioned above, enjoy it because once she started "normal" crawling she became fast and now gets into EVERYTHING! Haha.

Im a child development major he developing normally and has plenty of time to crawl at a much later date. Most 5 month olds are not crawling. So don't worry Momma!

Don't worry at all about him not crawling! My daughter didn't start until she was 8 1/2 months old. She also hated to be on her tummy and would always flip to her back, but they get the hang of it. Treasure the time you have now that he can't move around, because once he is on the move it's a whole new world!
I have all the same Chicco equipment as you. Don't you love it?

We have the same high chair, in orange. Love it!! Don't worry about the crawling. Lauren crawled on her 8 month birthday. I hate it when people ask me stuff like "Is she doing ____ yet?" It always makes me feel like she's behind too. UGH!

my son did not start to really crawl well till he was 10 months old. Now he is all over the place and I cant keep up with him. He turns 1 on July 14th. B will do it on his own time. I worried as well, but he will do it when you least expect it. Dont rush it, enjoy him being in one place.

Don't worry about it. My daughter who is 3 didn't crawl until she was 9 months, she preferred to roll everywhere until then. My son who just turned one army crawled from 5-7 months then took of crawling after that. Every child is different and will do things in their own time.

Harper is not even sitting yet! But she rolls all over the place and sure can move and crawl around her crib. ha! I'm trying hard not to compare her to other babies or worry - they all do things on their own time.

It's not time yet--don't start worrying! And if you can encourage him to NOT skip the crawling stage, that is an important stage for upper body strength/development and learning reciprocal movement, among several other reasons (the therapist in me just comes out...can't help it...sorry :) And I just LOVE the picture of his little face in the high chair--that is so precious.

My first scooted on her butt at 12 months, (never crawled) and walked at 15 months. My second and third both crawled at 13 and 12 months repsectively, and both walked at 15 months. Trust me, once he's mobile, it's all over!! LOL He'll do it when he's ready :)

Everyone loves to compare what their babys can do. It is some kind of twisted mother thing. Don't worry about B not crawling yet. My 3 all crawled at different ages. The earliest being 9 months. He was also my latest walker. My other two were practically walking first and then suddenly started to crawl. Only one of mine did the hands and knees rocking back and forth thing that so many people say is necessary in order to crawl. ALl of mine had a different kind of crawl too. One moved combat style. One preferred more of an upright position and would scoot more than crawl. No worries. My baby brother walked before he learned to crawl. It's no big thing. Don't let other people make you worry about B. He'll get there. And when he does, post video so we can see him in motion. :)

Hi! I'm Megan and I lurk around your blog :)

I'm an early intervention physical therapist (work with kids ages 0-3 years), so I thought I'd leave a comment answering your question... since I'm an "expert" and all *(yeah right!)*

Not crawling at his age is fine! However, if he's not tolerating playing on his tummy by 6 or 7 months, or not showing any signs of early crawling (like pulling his knees up under him) I would talk to your pediatrician. It's much easier to have 3 months of physical therapy and get it all worked out when he's younger, instead of waiting until he's 1 and then trying to make him do it then.

And by the way, it is very important that he learns to crawl! It's such a great activity that helps organize his brain! Please don't let him skip it! :)

My daughter didn't crawl until she was 11 months old and didn't walk until she was 19 months! She was too busy developing her brain since she has always been so smart. My son started crawling at 6 months (still army crawling now at 7 months). I'm not ready, he's really keeping me on my toes! All babies develop at their own pace. B is so cute, enjoy this time while he isn't as mobile!

My first daughter never crawled, love standing too and was a professional walker by 10 months! My second daughter didn't crawl until about 9 1/2 month and walked right before she was 12 months, so no worries, every kiddo is different!

Someone may have already said this, but crawling is not a milestone. Some babies never crawl. The go from rolling to pulling up and walking. My oldest army crawled. He pulled himself along with his arms and it wasn't until he was walking that he started crawling on his knees. So don't worry about it at all! But also, when you're on the floor with him, crawl some. Moddeling is always good for helping them to learn something new.
