Mr. Sippy

Moms, moms to be, friends of moms...I've got a great giveaway coming soon!

Yesterday was a big day in our house. Mr. B was given his first ever sippy cup! I thickened some water (wow, that was actually hard...I'm used to thickening 6oz of liquid not 2! It took awhile to get it right because his cup wont leak - the holes are tiny and only open when he sucks) and handed him his cup when he woke up from his swing time nap...

He knew right what to do! (Don't those big blue eyes just melt your heart?!)

This is not formula!

He really enjoyed it. I only gave him 2 ounces of water and over the course of the day he drank it all. We might start giving him baby juice or diluted baby juice tonight. We'll have to see how it goes.
I also bought him some Puffs, and being the safety freak that I am, I made both Chris and I actually taste them to make sure he couldn't choke. They are supposed to dissolve right on your tongue but it took awhile so we decided we'll wait a bit before giving those to him.

He is doing so good with the sippy! That's great because when it comes time to wein him, it will make it easier. As far as the puffs go, you have to be okay with it, but even though they don't dissolve right away, they will use their gums and tongue to mash them up, which is great practice for more grown up foods. Like I said, you have be comfortable with your decision, but my 2 girls were eating them by 6 months and haven't had any problems. But don't take my comments to heart! By no means am I comparing our babies or trying to tell you how to be a mom. I know enough people do that and it's frustrating! Have a great day with B!

He's doing great with his cup! It took my daughter several cups to find one she liked. We also had problems with the puffs not dissolving - we broke them in half so it wasn't the whole thing in her mouth, but she would open her mouth trying to get it unstuck from her tongue and it would look like she was choking - it terrified me!

You're a smart mom. I always have to harp on my parents at work about ALWAYS tasting anything they give their child. You can't always believe labels on packages, and it's so important to be sure it's safe for where YOU know your kids skills are at! He's so cute with his big sippy cup--he would be very hard to resist :)

Bailey still hasn't decided she'd like to actually drink from her cup. Instead, she just wants to chew on it. But she does get some of the juice out in the process. I never gave her water first, just started right away with the juice. I also tasted the puffs to see what they would do and was surprised to find they didn't really melt. But I gave them to her anyway and she did just fine with them. They do use their tounge and gums to that helps. She has been eating them since about 5 months I guess. Good luck with all that. It's so hard to know what to do and what not to do!

He is so cute... those baby blues would met anyones heart! I wanted to share something with you and it is one of those 'take it or leave it' things - haha... as a mom you are going to figure out what works for YOU and B along the way that is for sure... people gave me great advice along the way, some was great and worked perfectly for our family and some not.. I just thought I'd share with you my thoughts on juice. I didn't dilute Piercen's juice when he first began taking it and boy do I have a problem now. I wish I would have done half and half from the get go. I didn't and now if I dilute (at age 2 1/2) he knows it and hates it!!! :D

Oh Mr. B just melts your heart! I don't blame you for being safety minded! I am as well. Our house is baby proofed mainly for when my friends bring they're babies over. I bought the book you gave away and it arrived a few days ago! Its a blessing thank you for bringing it to my attention. It was only $2.99 at Christianbook.com (a wonderful site btw) they have so many items and a bargin outlet as well.

That is a great acomplishment! My daughter has the same cup and I don't think she likes it. She knows how to hold it and all of that but... Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hey Jenna,
I love sippy cups, they are fantastic! Just a word to the wise for when he gets a bit older--do not allow sippy cups with milk to leave the kitchen! I can't tell you the number of times I found sippy cups with days/week old milk in them; I'm sure you can get a visual on that one. Yuck!

Also, those puffs are fantastic! I actually like the strawberry banana ones--Jackson loved them! Enjoy, lol.

CUTE! He's getting SO big.

An idea about the Puffs... Are they the Gerber Puffs? The little star ones? When I fist started giving them to my kids, I actually broke each little spoke off so that each puff broke into 3 or 4 pieces. They did GREAT with the little tiny pieces.
