First Birthday - Share your ideas...

Brayden's first birthday is rapidly approaching...I can't believe he will be one in a little over a month!

I've been thinking about birthday themes lately. I have a good idea of what I might do, but I'm curious to get ideas from you all!

So, if you have kids, what theme did you go with? If you have pics you want to share let me know and I can set up a MckLinky. (Edit: MckLinky Added Below!)

And if you don't have kids you can still participate! Just search online and find your favorite party theme!

Here's a monkey party that I like...yes, you heard that right!

But, I don't think I am going to go in that direction for this party.

As usual, there seems to be a ton of great stuff out there for girls, but it's always a struggle to find different and unique boy stuff!

So share your ideas!!

my son has a July birthday so we did a beach ball theme, summer, flip flops we also had is 1st birhtday at our local splash water park. i found it difficult to find a cute fun theme for a boy as well. we just went with the summer theme. haha ;o). Most themes are sports or monkeys. good luck!!

I have never commented before, but I have been reading your blog since your little boy was born. I have 3 boys ages 2,5,&6. I saw the cutest circus themed stuff at Hobby Lobby the other day and you could do the cutest cake using the colors red, baby blue and dark blue. I googled circus cakes once and they were some cute ideas. We have done a cowboy theme before that was really cute. This will probably be the only year you will get to choose the theme so have fun!

We're doing a Winter One-derland for Liam's birthday. All of my Christmas decor is blue, white and silver, so that's the colors we're going with for his party. I'm sure I'll post some pics on my blog after the party next weekend. I got a ton of ideas from the internet.

I'm always a fan of using the 1st birthday stuff with the big 1. Only because you can never use it again but you can always do other themes later. We took Lauren to the beach and had a little mermaid cake so I'm no big help :(

Hey girl--I hope you're feeling better! I was thinking about you in church this morning--the "Horton" family did Advent--different Hortons--but still--was wondering how you are!!!

For Brody's first birthday, we did a Tonka truck theme. We bough some of the Tonka trucks to use with the refreshments - put chips in the back of the dump trucks, dip in the front loaders, made a dirt cake, etc. We dressed him in jeans and a plaid shirt and let him wear a little yellow hard hat that I put a "1" on, and his tool belt. We used the yellow construction tape to designate certain areas of the party, yellow and black balloons...It was a big hit!

For my youngest's 1st birthday we went with a baseball theme. I even made a baseball shaped cake. I got to your blog because you commented on my blog.

For Tayson's first birthday we did a prince themed party. The invitations said, "Please join us for sme birthday fun, our little prince is turning one!". It turned out so cute. I even found a plush throne chair for him to sit in to open his gifts. Everyone in our families has always referred to him as the little prince so it fit! For his second birthday we did a farm/barnyard theme and it was fun too! He will be 3 on Jan 15th and we are doing a rockstar birthday party. For Tristin's first birthday, in March, I have been thinking about either doing a circus or ocean theme. I hope that helps!!

We did a balloon theme because he loves all things round & bouncy. The best idea/advice I got was to take a cute picture of him eating cake & make thank you postcards - much easier than writing thank you notes from B!

I decided to not to a themed party per se. I went with colors instead. I have a girl and I love pink and brown (her room and a lot of her clothes are pink and brown). I put some pictures on my blog (http://liegedavis.blogspot.com/2009/09/its-birthday-party.html).
I found that easier than going with a theme. And I, personally, don't really like themed parties. But that's just my opinion.
Plus, the first birthday party is more for you and for pictures that for the kid. B won't really know what's going on and he won't remember it either.
And my most important advise is to have fun with it.

For my son Jackson's 1st birthday we did Fisher Price Little People Farm. We got the farm set for his birthday so I washed the people and animals then took them to the cake lady, I used Shelby Lynn's in Springdale, she added them to the cake and it was super cute. Since my son is now almost 5 I don't have copies of those digitally. But Hobby Lobby has some cute party themes, I used birthdayexpress.com to order J's first birthday stuff. For his 2nd birthday I took him to Party City in Fayetteville and held up every boy theme and let him pick. He ended up picking cars and trucks. His 3rd birthday was John Deere and this 4th was Spider-Man. I will post what pictures I can find on my blog for you to go check out.

My kiddos were born out in Hawaii, but for their first birthday we were in Minnesota. So, we decided to do a luau themed party. It was a hit with the adults, and the kiddos loved the cake!

For our little guy's first birthday, we did barnyard animals. It was super cute and everything was easy to find - I even found barnyard plates, napkins with a one. We did #1 cookies for his favor. For his 2nd birthday we did sock monkeys and I loved it!!! My niece made all the kids a sock monkey as their favor. Look forward to seeing pictures!

Hugs and Stitches - They have a boy theme and a girl theme and they're really cute. I used it for both kids (one blue, one pink).

Have you seen the Mod Sock Monkey party on Hostess with the Mostess? I LOVE it. Also, I'm sure you've heard of it, but the Creative Party Place blog has SO many ideas I'm sure you could find something. Good luck!! :)

I don't have pictures on this computer of my youngest's first birthday. But when she was just a couple months old the idea came to me one night (dreaming, I guess). It was July so it was a watermelon theme. she even had a watermelon dress. her cake looked like a watermelon.
My other two's were not nearly as theme oriented as hers.
Remember that they are too young to really get the birthday party thing yet and sometimes it overwhelms them.
the first question i'd ask if what kind of things does he like. I'd have a theme based on that and then you can find things or make thing to spice the decorations and party up. For instance, if his birthday is in January you could do a snowman theme. A little snowman that has his eye color and the number 1 could be the front of the invitation and the inside could hold the information. I could go on. Truly if you'd like more ideas please email me at keenerfamily@gmail.com
