My husband calls me weird.

Chris thinks I'm weird.

Ok, so maybe not. But he thinks my taste in music is.

I disagree.

I think I have eclectic taste in music. I like lots of different things. I can listen to an old hymn, followed by an Owl City song, and then some classical. Or country. Or pop.

Exhibit A:
This is what's on my iTunes playlist right this very moment:

Hope Now by Addison Road (Christian)

To Build a Home by The Cinematic Orchestra (um, not sure what to call it)

Telephone by Lady Gaga (Pop-ish)

Until the Whole World Sings by Casting Crowns (Christian)

I've Gotta Feeling by Black Eyed Peas

Kerosene by Miranda Lambert (Country)

Set Fire to the Third Bar by Snow Patrol (you know, that song from Dear John)

Fireflies by Owl City

Worthy is the Lamb by Third Day (Christian)

Ain't No Sunshine by Al Green

Time to Say Goodbye by Andrea Bocelli - OPERA, yes, OPERA!

Mighty to Save by Hillsong United

Southern Voice by Tim McGraw

Party in the USA by Miley Cyrus (hold you laughter please)

Big House by Audio Adrenaline (Christian - I'm teaching Bman the hand movements; I remember them from when I was little!)

OK, so what do you think? That's not my whole playlist but it gives you an example. Am I weird or eclectic?

Details

I guess I got in a little bit of a hurry yesterday when I was writing about the new office furniture.

Several of you asked where I found it - actually, Chris found the furniture. We'd been looking for awhile and knew we wanted something that was good and solid, and that would last us a really long time. Everything we liked was ridiculously overpriced (shocking, I know!). Then somebody told us that Riverside Furniture had a factory down near where Chris' dads family lived. So he called his dad and got the number for the factory and called them directly. We looked at their site and found this furniture and they were able to give us a great deal. We were able to save over 30% by buying direct from them.

If you follow me on Twitter (remember, I changed my account to private, so send me a follow request and if you are sending me messages and not hearing back, then it's because I can't see them - send me an email and we can fix that!) you may have seen my tweet about finding a GREAT deal on a rug from Ballards. This is the rug I bought to go in the office under the new desk:
The bad thing is I bought it about a week ago and it still hasn't shipped. Chris called them yesterday and they said it could be 4-6 weeks! I thought that was a little crazy!

I hope that answers all your questions! Also, a lot of times when you comment here on my blog, I write you back through Disqus (my commenting system). Make sure you enter your email address so you get my replies!

A Boring and Productive Day

First, if you follow me on twitter (@Jenna05) I've changed my account to private. Just submit a follow request and I'll approve it - I was just getting a lot of spam. Also, if YOU are private, and tweeting me, I can't see your tweets unless I follow you! So let me know! The best way to let me know you're tweeting me is to send me and email so I can look you up!

My ideal Saturday does not consist of driving 3 hours (there and back) to get furniture. But, when you save a lot of money by going directly to the factory in order to buy said furniture, I guess I consider that fairly productive.

Bman didn't mind the drive - in fact he was rockin out to some Owl City, Third Day, Casting Crowns and the occasional, ahem, Miley Cyrus or Taylor Swift song (he has a massive crush on Taylor).

And the main reason I'm chalking this up to being a productive day is:
The credenza and hutch:

And finally, I made my THIRD batch of these this week. We ate the first batch (and shared some) and my VERY in trouble inside dog polished off the second batch when I left them to cool for a few minutes.

Hope you're enjoying your weekend!

Glow In The Dark.

That's how I often describe my skin color.

I'm seriously pale. And I don't tan. I'm either red or white. I think if I go outside for 5 minutes without sunscreen I burn to a crisp. And my burns don't turn into tans they go from bright red to stark white.

Which brings me to my topic - makeup. I used to wear Clinique but then I realized that they didn't make makeup that was pale enough for me and I always had that oh-so-flattering makeup line around my face. The best part was none of my friends, family or ahem, HUSBAND pointed it out. I had to see a picture of myself and then ask Chris if I always looked that that. Hurmph.

Anyway, that sent me on the hunt for makeup that actually equaled my paleness. Which brings me back to this post - I've gotten countless emails from readers who are apparently as pale as I am asking where I get my makeup! I've always responded individually, but I thought I may as well do a post since apparently a lot of you suffer from the same issue as I did!

For my face: I use Merle Norman foundation, concealer and powder. They are the only brand I've found that covers well (I have lots of freckles that I like to try and hide!) and matches my skin tone. Foundation: Luxiva Timeless in Cream. Powder: Ultra Powder Foundation in Ultra Fair.
However, they don't have any blush that I think works well for my super pale skin, so I use Sephora Brand No. 3, Framboise Attraction.

For my eyes: I use Maybelline or Cover Girl eyeshadows, Cover Girl eyeliner (they make a great one that is like a crayon. I don't do well with liquid or pencil eyeliners) and Maybelline mascara.

I'm not saying by any stretch of the imagination that I am great at doing makeup. But I do understand how hard it is to find makeup that will match a pale girls skintone, so I hope this helps!

Upon which she insulted the entire state of Missouri...

Does anyone else watch Real Housewives? (FYI, a lot of you can't pretend you don't because we all talk about it on Thursday nights on Twitter!!).

I am very conflicted about Alexis.

Now, I know we only see like 12 minutes of each person once a week and that's not a lot of information to go on. I've read some of her Bravo blogs in an attempt to better understand her. But I still don't get her.

I was really thrown off last week by her conversation with her pastor. I think he was even more thrown off. And his wife was possibly the most weirded out.

Anyway, last night she made the comment (no, not the one about her hair smelling like air) about how girls in Missouri only wear jeans and t-shirts and are plain (or something like that). Um, what? Did anyone else follow that?

What do you make of her? Overall, I'm just confused.

Easter Best

I'm one of those people who likes to coordinate their family attire for Easter. And this year, I'm on the ball and planning ahead. Most Sundays I dress Chris and Brayden alike (as much as possible), and Easter will not be an exception!

I ordered this dress for myself - in two sizes since I'm not sure which will fit. I hope it looks halfway decent on me! If not, they are both going back!

And I picked up this little number for Brayden, with the exception of the hat and shoes. He'd never keep the hat on and the shoes aren't my style. He has some little loafers I'll put him in that I found at Target. I am thinking I'll will also end up putting him in khaki's but we will see! Chris has a similar shirt/vest combo to wear.

What will you be wearing this Easter?

Poppyseed Chicken & My Favorite Chocolate Chip Cookies

I have TWO new recipes to share with you today to make up for the fact that I forgot to do New Recipe Tuesday. So it's NRW this time around (New Recipe Wednesday).

First up, PoppySeed Chicken.
Well, kinda. There are two problems. One, I didn't have any poppyseeds. Two, I forgot to take pictures. But here's the recipe anyway. I combined several recipes I found on the Internet based on what I had on hand, so I guess I made up my own version. It tasted good!

PoppySeed Chicken
2 boiled chicken breasts, shredded
1 and a half cans of Cream of Chicken Soup (I guess if you used more chicken, you could use 2 whole cans, I just thought it would be too creamy)
1.5 cups light sour cream (or more if you use more chicken)
Crushed butter crackers
Half a stick of butter, melted.

Boil and shred the chicken. Mix the chicken, soup and sour cream. Top with crushed crackers and then pour the butter over the top. Bake at 375 for 15-20 mins.

Where might you ask are the poppyseeds? Well, I didn't have any. If you do, add 3T of them into the mix!

Next up, my all time favorite Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe. I've used this recipe for years and it's the only CCC recipe that the cookies plump up and taste great. When I was pregnant with Brayden CCC's were one of few things I seemed to be able to keep down so I worked and worked on this recipe to get it just right. I combined a lot of recipes I found on the Internet and made a lot of changed until I was able to get the cookie to be nice and fat.

Jenna's Favorite CCC Recipe

2 1/4 cup all purpose flour
3/4 fine white sugar
1 unpacked cup dark brown sugar
2 large eggs
1 1/2 t pure vanilla
1 1/4 t salt
1 1/2 t baking soda
1 stick of melted butter, slightly cooled
1 1/2 cups semi sweet chocolate chips

I use my mixer for the whole process. It works great and at the end I only have one thing to clean!

First, things first though. Preheat your oven to 375.

Next, melt your butter in the microwave and set it aside to cool.

In your mixer, combine the sugars and butter. Mix well. Then add the vanilla and eggs. Mix really well. Be sure you don't have any lumps in your batter from the brown sugar. If you do, take and fork and mash them out.

In a small bowl combine the flour, baking soda and salt. Stir it with a whisk or a fork and make sure it is lump free.

Add half of the flour mixture into your mixer:
Mix until just combined. Then add the other half. Lastly, add your chips and mix once more.

Spray 2 baking sheets with Pam. I use a ice cream scooper to make sure all my cookies are the same size and thus, bake evenly.

Bake at 375 for 11 minutes, or until just done. Cool on a rack. Enjoy!

Insecurity Challenge #2 Keeping It Real

If you missed my first post on going from insecure, to secure, just click here.

If you've been participating in the challenge I issued in that post, how's it been going for you? So far, for me, it's been going really well. It's amazing how changing one little facet of your thought process can make a big difference in how you feel about yourself. Or at least for me it does!

So it's time to think about another way to change our thought processes. Again, this may not apply to you, I'm just drawing on hunches that I've picked up from So Long Insecurity by Beth Moore.

Anger.

Do you ever feel angry at someone for something they've done? I know I do. More often than I'd probably like to admit. Beyond the obvious, do you ever get angry about indirect assaults? Something that you take offense at while the offending party may not even know that they've committed an offense?

Yikes. That's definitely me. And those particular instances make me feel pretty insecure. Examples: Why would they want to take my idea as their own? Why wouldn't they include me? Why didn't they mention that I was there too?

Things like that.

As adults we all have been in these situations. And sometimes, we've even been on the opposite end, the one intentionally or unintentionally causing the insecurity.

So the challenge this time around is two fold:

1. Don't sweat the small stuff. If there is any chance that an offense could have been unintentional, leave it at that. I don't mean be a doormat. But sometimes people are absent minded (I know I can be!) and they really don't mean to hurt your feelings.

2. Be mindful of how you are treating others this week. If you're out in a group, make sure everyone feels included. If you think someone had a great idea, then give them a pat on the back.

Let me know how it goes for you!

A GREAT Mail Day

Yesterday was quite possibly the very best snail mail day ever.

Why? Because all of this came:

1. Beth Moore Ticket
2. PW Cookbook
3. Four FREE any size drink from Starbucks

Need I say more?

You're probably wondering about the Starbucks. I go to a certain Starbucks several times a week. And the last 10 or so times they kept making my drink wrong. They gave me a receipt with a survey so I filled it out. Apparently, they take those thing seriously! I got 3 emails from their home office and one from the district manager here. Oh, and 4 free drinks!

Anyway, days like that make me LOVE snail mail!

Gymboree!!

Today I took Brayden to his very first Gymboree class!

I really want him to be around kids more often so that maybe he won't totally lose it every time I put him in the church nursery.

I got there early and we were able to play by ourselves for a little bit. Once he realized that I wasn't leaving he had a ball!

You'll notice that for once, he is hardly looking at the camera. I think I was annoying him. It certainly has nothing to do with the fact that I took nearly 200 pictures in 45 min's. Nope.

The big green slide:

He found this gigantic ball and he LOVED it. I think he would have brought it home if I'd have let him!

This is his teacher, Ms. Amanda. He marched his little self right up to her and took one of the balls she was holding.
B's friend Harper was there today for the first time too! He looked at her like, "I think I know you from somewhere...."
I tried in vain to get him to flash me a toothy grin from the opposite end of this tunnel.
The famous snail slide!
When it was time to push the big air filled cylinder, he lined up like he knew exactly what to do and took off!
BUBBLE TIME!!!! Need I say more?
We had such a fantastic time! I signed him up for a membership and we'll be going to class once a week and then there is free play time 3 times a week. If you want to sign up there is a special promotion going on now. You can get $50 off if you sign up before the 28th.

As I read through So Long Insecurity, I had a thought.

Okay, so I had a whole lotta thoughts. But one thought in particular that I had was that, at least with some of my own personal issues with insecurity, what would happen if I changed one single thought process? If I switched my paradigm, so to speak.

Here's what I mean. Are you ever in a situation with people you don't know well? I think most of us are. Perhaps at your husbands office when you stop by for a visit, or at a church event or maybe if you volunteer. Do you tend to make assumptions quickly at what others are thinking of you? Of their 1st, 5th, 100th impression of you? I know I sure do. From the moment I meet someone I typically begin to wonder what they think of me. And being me, I tend to jump to the worst conclusion. They think I'm snobby. Rude. Fat. That I need my roots done. That there's no way they want to be my friend. Heck, they probably never want to speak to me again!

That might sound like a slight exaggeration. But in many cases, for myself, it's really not that far fetched.

But, what if I changed my paradigm? What if, instead of all that non-sense, I thought "They like me. They think I'm a nice person."

Wow. Those can be pretty powerful thoughts, just as my other thoughts can be equally as powerful in a more devastating way.

For the next week (and hopefully way beyond that) I am going to challenge myself to think those positive thoughts when I'm around people I'm not that comfortable with. I'm going to have plenty of opportunities too (remember my NY Resolutions? I'm putting myself out there!).

From the comments a lot of you left me on this post, it seems like you might be in my same boat. So jump on board with me if you'd like. The more the merrier. At the end of the week, I'll check in with you. Let me know your successes and I'll share mine too. See you at the end of the week!

I never thought I'd see the day...

Don't forget to check out my latest giveaway - just click here!

13 months ago, when Brayden was being fed through IV fluids, bottles were the least of my concern. A few weeks later Brayden received his first bottle (from a nurse - for some reason that I can't remember, they wouldn't let us feed him that bottle...maybe because our favorite nurse wasn't there) and everything changed.

(His first bottle)

I remember sitting in the NICU feeding Brayden and begging him to eat his bottle. Chris and I would pep talk him and tell him to take just one more MIL, one more MIL. Rarely did he listen. We knew that he had to take a certain amount or we'd never get to go home. Every tiny drop made a big difference.

He often ate better for Chris and there were days that I had Chris give him all of his bottles because I was scared that if I fed him and he didn't eat well, it would delay our eventual release.

When we brought him home, bottles still weighed heavily on our minds. We took him into his Pediatrician's office many times for weigh in's. We worried that we weren't thickening his bottles correctly, or enough. When he flat out refused a bottle or two I would cry and beg him to just take a half an ounce.

And today my little guy downs 8 ounce bottles like they're going out of style. He stuffs his face with more real food than I'd ever imagined he'd eat. I never thought I'd see the day. But I am so glad I do.

Easy. Healthy. Delicious. FAST. Salad!

I'm talking about this:

A satisfying, healthy and quick lunch salad I whipped up the other day.

Here's what you'll need:
Lettuce - I used an organic herb mix
Kidney Beans, dark with skin
Avocado
Artichoke Hearts, halved
Croutons or something else crunchy
Low or No fat Italian dressing

Clean and dry the lettuce. I often do this as soon as I buy it and then put it in a zip top bag so that I can make sure to get the air out. Next slice the avocados and halve the artichoke hearts. Drain the kidney beans - I don't rinse them but you can if you like. Add a few croutons or something else thats crunchy for good texture and top with Italian (I used no fat).

How's that for a fast and healthy meal? Or you can use it as a first course for dinner. Yum.

Want to win?? A NEW Giveaway!

I'm very excited to bring you my next giveaway from one of my favorite Etsy stores, C&C Originals.
Actually, there are TWO giveaways going on here, all rolled into one!

The first is something I can't live without and neither can Bman.

The second, is something I used to not be able to live without - a badge reel for work! Aren't these adorable?!
So head on over here for your chance to win a paci clip OR a badge reel!

The best toys are free

Yesterday Chris and I went to a furniture store to look around. We were there for awhile and the lady that was helping us really wanted to give B a balloon before we left. He'd never had one before...

I'd say he was pretty happy.

He talked to it the whole way home in the car and the played with it until bedtime.
There you have it. A - in this case - free toy that he enjoyed for hours!

Landmarks

I have another, new awesome giveaway going on here! Be the first to check it out!

I realized something the other day while I was driving around.

Well, maybe I realized it awhile ago but that is neither here nor there.

I don't do signs. I respond to landmarks.

So if I'm ever headed to a friend of mine's home and they take out the local bank that sits in front of her subdivision, I'm in trouble because I have no clue what street to turn on. Never mind that she's lived there for the last 6 years.

Or maybe if they were to take out Sandy Bridge and the big wooden man that sits up top of it away in Tahoe City, then I'd never, ever find my favorite restaurant, the Bridge Tender.

Basically, what I think I'm getting at here is that I could completely do without road signs. Seriously. But they just better not move my landmarks.

Why on earth I am doing THAT

This is a little crazy.

I woke up on Sunday and decided that I was going to go 7 days without sugary drinks. 7 whole days. Now, keep in mind I almost never drink coke. Or pop. Or soda. Whatever floats your boat. But that's not really what I mean.

I consume abnormally large amounts of sweet tea. Oh and cran-grape juice. I mean mass quantities people.

So on Sunday morning, I thought for some reason that this was a brilliant idea, and started tweeting about my 7 day project of abstaining from sweet tea primarily. How easy would this be, I thought to myself. How simple, really. Gosh, 7 days?! I should try 30!

Then Monday came. And I had a headache. Just this short of being a full blown migraine. And I realized that sugar withdrawals and caffeine withdrawals must be two very similar animals.

No worries. It'll be gone tomorrow. Right?

Wrong.

Tuesday and Wednesday came and went.

Today is Thursday and I still have my headache. Never mind that single glass of coca cola I had at playgroup (that wasn't technically against the rules and I won't be having any more anyway).

The killer lack of sugar headache still lingers.

And I am counting down til' Sunday.

------------------

On a totally separate note, Foodista asked me to submit my German Chocolate Cake recipe for possible publication in their cookbook. If you'd like to vote for it, click on the link on my right sidebar. To read my recipe, just click here.

Playgroup

Great comments on my last post! I love reading each and everyone!! I am so glad I wrote that - I almost deleted it before I published! I had no idea so many of you felt the same way that I feel!

Today was playgroup at Kelly's house. I think Brayden thought I was dropping him off and leaving because he lost it the second I set him down. Harper couldn't figure out why he was so upset!

Once he realized that I was indeed staying, he and Harper pushed around her highchair.
And then he settled in to read a book.
This was my sweet friend Julie and Shepherd's first playgroup. Little Shepherd did SO well! He is such a good, calm, laid back little guy! And of course, SUPER cute!
Tracy and her two adorable daughters Sarah Grace and Lena were there as well but I forgot to snap a pic!

We had a great time with some WONDERFUL food! I'd never had poppyseed chicken before and now I think I'm hooked! It was so good!

Please take a minute to visit Megan and Legrand. Megan and her unborn baby Cohen need our prayers as well as Legrand, a local injured soldier.

So Long Bad Friend!

I am about to start reading this book:

And by "about to start reading" I mean it's sitting right here next to me waiting for me to quit clicking away on this laptop. In other words, once I've written this post, I'm picking it up.

But, prior to reading the book, I thought maybe it might be a good idea to be aware of some of my insecurities. That way, as I go through it, I can make the choice to let the words affect me directly, and perhaps affect the way I think about those specific things.

I'm not going to list all of my insecurities. If I did, I'd miss the conference because I'd still be sitting here typing away. So I'm going to pick a few - the biggest few and start there.

1. I always think people don't like me.
I am a big believer in not judging others, because I never want someone to pre-judge me based on what they think they know or have heard. But yet, here I am being judgmental because I am assuming that people automatically don't like me.

2. I don't think anyone wants to be my friend.
That's like the opposite of a YoGabbaGabba song or something. But seriously, I struggle with not feeling like I fit in, not feeling like I'm accepted. I am sensitive to a fault, always thinking and sadly, assuming that I am, for whatever reason, not worthy of another s friendship. Shyness, for me, ties into this. I am incredibly shy with people I don't know well. I think, on occasion, shyness is interpreted as something else.

3. How I look.
I think if you polled 100 women, 99 of them would list this as an insecurity. TV and magazines really feed this insecurity with their photoshopped people and camera tricks. I get that. But it still makes the rest of us feel ... well ... insecure. I could be thinner, blonder, taller, have perfect skin...and I still wouldn't compare to the magic of photoshopping. And I need to be okay with that. This is probably the one I've personally worked on the most, because I realize that this is how God made me and He doesn't make mistakes!

So what are some of your insecurities? Do you share any of mine??

Brayde's big day...

Yesterday my mom and I took B to Mimi's for lunch. It was still on the early side though so we ordered B his very first restaurant breakfast, my personal fave, chocolate chip pancakes. He ate almost a whole pancake and a couple of bites of applesauce. He has just never been an applesauce kid!

But a chocolate lover he is. I can identify.

And later last night I remembered that we needed to take a new picture of the 3 of us to commemorate his 1 year re-birthday!

Please check out the prayer requests on my left sidebar for Megan and Legrand. Megan received some very concerning news regarding her unborn baby Cohen's heart. Legrand is a local solider who was recently gravely injured while serving our country.

Home for a Year

365 days ago, we brought Brayden home after 5 weeks in the NICU!

His going home outfit...it was a little large but I was 4 hours away from home and this is all I had to work with!

In his carseat for the first time.

Saying goodbye to B's primary nurse, Sayward. It's so awesome to be able to go back and see her and all of the other nurses, doctors, and of course, our favorite OT, Tessa!
The first time in his swing...

My parents had ordered this banner - it greeted us when we pulled into the driveway of our home!

We are so thankful that we were able to bring home a healthy, happy baby boy. So many, too many, don't ever get to see that day. So today, please join me in praying for all those who have endured that loss.

Paprika Chicken with Sour Cream Gravy

So for New Recipe Tuesday this week, I found the below recipes from Campbells.com. Lianna tipped me off to their recipe site. Thanks Lianna!

I ended up making changes to it (of course!). I hardly ever make anything without making changes! ha!

At the bottom I will write out my changes for you...

Paprika Chicken with Sour Cream Gravy

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

2 teaspoons paprika

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon ground black pepper

1 teaspoon ground red pepper

4 skinless, boneless chicken breast half (about 1 pound)

1/4 cup butter

1 can (10 3/4 ounces) Campbell's® Condensed Cream of Chicken Soup (Regular or 98% Fat Free)

2 green onions, sliced (about 1/4 cup)

1 container (8 ounces) sour cream

Stir the flour, paprika, garlic powder, black pepper and red pepper on a plate. Coat the chicken with the paprika mixture.

Heat the butter in a 10-inch skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the chicken for 10 minutes or until well browned on both sides. Remove the chicken from the skillet.

Stir the soup and green onions in the skillet and heat to a boil. Return the chicken to the skillet. Reduce the heat to low. Cover and cook for 5 minutes or until the chicken is cooked through. Stir in the sour cream.

My Changes:

I forgot to add the garlic powder. Whoops. Next time I'd be sure to do that.

I didn't have green onions on hand so I used some onion powder and a little minced dehydrated onion.

The sauce was SUPER thick so I added 1 1/2 cans of water.

Next time I'll add more salt and more red pepper. It needed a little more flavor.

B's FIRST Valentines Day

First, can you all please take a moment and go visit my new friend Megan? Megan and her husband just received some news about their unborn baby Cohen's heart. They really need your prayers right now, and in the months to come.

So I know you all are thinking I've lost my mind. No, I know this isn't Brayden's first Valentines day, but it IS his first Valentines day out of the hospital! So we are celebrating that!

He wants to wish everyone a happy V-day!

His little shirt says "I love Mommy" on the front. The back says "And Mommy Loves ME!" So cute. My mom and dad found that for him!

I hope your Valentines day is going well!

Date Night

Hop on over here to enter my newest giveaway!

Yesterday afternoon Chris and I headed over to my parent's house to drop off the Bman so we could go on a date! I think this is only the second time we've done this since he's been born, unless I'm forgetting something!

We headed to this grilled cheese place I've heard a lot about, but we didn't really like it very much (could have just been what we ordered).
So we headed over to Ricks for a chocolate fix!
After that we went to see When In Rome. My honest opinion is that it wasn't nearly as funny as I thought it would be. It was cute though!

This morning we went to look at some furniture stores and the ate at Mellow Mushroom (yum!). Chris had a BBQ Chicken salad...
And I created my own little salad from teriyaki chicken, artichokes, avocado, olives and cheese. A little weird, I know. But it was sooooo good.
We went to pick up B after his nap. Grammy had him open his Valentines card and gift:
He really liked his mini golf club set!
And then we came home to this - A little V-day cake we bought at Ricks! Can't wait to cut into it!
I hope y'all had a great weekend too!
