My favorite thing this Friday...

First of all, let me say that this is not a review of any kind. I'm just sharing a program with you that I found and love! I have no affiliation with them and was not asked to write this. =)

Do you watch Nick Jr? Or Sprout? Or Disney? Or any kids channel? If you do, then you have to have seen the ABC Mouse commercials. Brayden kept asking me to try it out, but I didn't want to purchase it because I really didn't understand what the point was. I mean, I work with him on letters, numbers and writing and he goes to pre-school, so what's the point?

Here's the funny thing. Maybe some of you can relate to this - Brayden doesn't like learning from me. He gets irritated and just shuts down. His teacher? Yes. Chris? Yes. My mom? Yes. Anyone other than me is basically allowed to work with him on reading, writing and math.

To be honest, last week I was really, really frustrated. Finally, I decided to look up what exactly ABC Mouse was. They have a 30 day free trial, and if I remember correctly, they offer a discount if you go ahead and sign up. I think I paid around $50 or $60 for a 1 year subscription and you can put up to 3 kids on that plan.

It was very easy to figure out how it worked. This is what it looks like when you log in and go to your classroom:

These are just screenshots I took from Brayden's account. See the little boy avatar on the far right? You can customize that. I let Brayden and Brody design their own that look like them and pick their own outfits. As you complete lessons you earn virtual prizes and tickets. You can cash in your tickets to "buy" clothes for your avatar as well as things for your room. Brayden has a fish tank, a full wardrobe and a footstool. Don't ask, he picked it out. He said that way "the little boy who looks like me can sit and watch his fishes." Too cute.

We usually start by going through our "Learning Path" which is where the lessons are. Each letter and number have a lesson along with other things like the atmosphere and animals. In the lesson are games, puzzles, songs, books and other activities. There are also printables for each lesson.

After each lesson, we go back to the main page and click on the barn or the zoo, where you can find additional, individual lessons along with TONS of games. Pictured above is Brayden's favorite game. I think he loves it because he gets to use the arrow keys, haha!

I was talking to some friends on twitter about the program yesterday and it was just WAY too much to type there, so I thought I'd outline my thoughts here instead. The best thing about all of this for me is that Brayden and I can do it together. He actually lets me help him and explain things to him using this venue, which makes this momma HAPPY!

Brody also loves it and I wanted to point out that Chris (or I) and Brody usually do Brody's lessons on the ipad because it's easier for his little fingers than my laptop mousepad.

If you have any questions about it, let me know and I'll do my best to answer based on my experience. We've only been using it for a week or so now, but we are already loving it!
